Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
As children of God, in Christ, we are called to live from a place of divine security: our lives are hidden in Christ. Yes, we are called to live from a place where we are protected from the evil one: “…the evil one cannot touch them” (1 John 5:18). Living from this place of divine security is the Lord’s will for us. How do we live in such a way that we “give no opportunity to the devil” (Ephesians 4:27)?
The Bible is very clear as to how we can live from a place where the enemy will not have the opportunity to “steal, kill, and destroy”. In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, the Bible gives us some insight into the kind of life we are called to live in Christ: it is not enough for us just to live rejoicing, praying, and giving thanks. The will of God and the high calling we have in Christ go deeper than this: our calling is to rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances and in doing these there will be no gaps for any other attitude to infiltrate our lives. This week as we live our lives in this way, we will give no place for the works of the flesh but will make room for the work of the Spirit to manifest in and through our lives.
Declaration: This week I will live in such a way that I will give no opportunity to the devil and I will do this by rejoicing always, praying without ceasing, and giving thanks in all circumstances as this is the will of God for me in Christ Jesus.
Scripture: Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God…” (John 4:34, NLT)
