Perfect Work

Being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience. Colossians 1:11

In the above verse we see the counsel Paul gives the Colossians church: to live by the strength of the Lord. If you look at this verse you will realize that the way the strength of the Lord manifests is through ‘endurance and patience’. Patience is the key that the Lord will use to accomplish His purpose in and through us and that is the reason the Bible admonishes us to “let patience have her perfect work” in our lives.  Yes, it is interesting to see that the work of patience in our lives will be a perfect work but only if we allow it to do its work.

There are three things that will impact our lives through the work of patience.

  1. Our souls are precious to the Lord, they are the part of our three-part being (spirit, soul, and body) that will determine where we will spend eternity. The key to preserving our souls in this hyper-busy world is through patience; In your patience possess ye your souls (Luke 21:19).

  2. One of the greatest inheritances we have in Christ is the promises of God. As children of God our lives are anchored in the promises of God and the way we inherit these precious promises of God, as impossible they may seem to be, is not just by faith but through the work of patience: “That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises” (Hebrews 6:12).

  3. The call of every believer is this: to be fruitful (John 15:8). The ability to “bear much fruit” in any area of our lives will never be a quick process; it is a work that will be manifested through patience: “But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience” (Luke 8:15).

This week remember this: the patience that you manifest in your walk with the Lord will be an expression of His glorious might that is at work in your life.

Declaration: This week I will live as one who is being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might, and as I do this, patience will have its perfect work done in and through me.

Scripture: …and let us run with patience the race that is set before us (Hebrews 12:1).
