A place of refuge

When she could hide him no longer, she took for him a basket made of bulrushes and daubed it with bitumen and pitch. She put the child in it and placed it among the reeds by the river bank. Exodus 2:3

Thought: As parents, when our children are little we do everything we can to shield then from the world and the unrighteous ways of the world but we always come to a place in life where we can “hide them no longer”. So it was with the mother of Moses: she hid him as long as she could, but there came a time “when she could hide him no longer”.  Moses had to move from a place of hiding to a place of being covered. When we can no longer hide our children, our responsibility when we send them out into the world is to make sure they are covered. Just as God provided everything Moses’ mother needed to cover her child, God has provided all that we need as parents to cover our children: the word of God and the blood of Christ. God provided all that was needed to cover Moses, but Moses’ mother had to do her part to use what God had provided: “she took for him a basket made of bulrushes” and “daubed it with bitumen and pitch”.  Even as we cover our children with all that God has provided for us, let us be assured of this: the unstable ways of this world will not overcome our children. Moses’ mother was faithful in preparing a covering for Him; God did His part and made sure He secured Moses’ destiny. This year, let this verse be true for all our children: “In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge” (Proverbs 14:26).

Prayer: Heavenly Father, this morning we thank You for the great blessing of being parents. Lord, we thank You that for every season as parents and as children, You have made provision to meet our every need. Lord, we thank You for the seasons where You made provision for us to hide our children and we thank You for the season You have provided for us to also cover them. Lord, we thank You for all that You have provided for us today to be able to cover our children: the spoken word, the written word, and Your precious blood. Lord, this year, as we send our children out into the world we thank You that the unstable nature of the systems of this age will NOT alter the divine destiny on our children but the divine covering that is upon them will only lead them to the place of their divine purpose. Lord, this is our confidence in this new season: our “children shall have a place of refuge”. We thank You for hearing our prayer and we thank You for the blessing of divine providence, in Jesus’ precious name, amen.
