An enlarged mouth

And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation. 1 Samuel 2:1

One of the greatest strategies of the enemy against a child of God is to exploit our pain or weakness; the way he does this is to constantly remind us of this area of lack. One incident in the Bible that highlights this is the story of Hannah. The Bible records that Hannah was barren: “…but Hannah had no children” (1 Samuel 1:2). As we read the story of Hannah,  we see how her adversary took advantage of Hannah’s pain: “And her adversary also provoked her sore” (1 Samuel 1:6). Never forget that our adversary wants to always keep us focused on our area of pain and lack. Many times the things that trouble us deeply cannot be expressed by words; Hannah found herself in this position: “Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard” (1 Samuel 1:13). Yes, many times things in our heart can only be expressed through “…groanings which cannot be uttered” (Romans 8:26) and this is where Hannah found herself.

Thank God we have a Savior who knows our hearts: “…And he who searches our hearts…” (Romans 8:27). We see how God answered Hannah’s wordless prayer and delivered her from the pain of barrenness. When God delivered Hannah from barrenness, she found herself singing a song of praise to the Lord and one of the most remarkable statements she makes in this song of praise is found in 1 Samuel 2:1: “…my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies”.  Hannah’s transition was so remarkable that she went from having no words due to her pain to having a mouth overflowing with a song of praise to the one who had delivered her. This week let us expect God to intervene in our situation, that we will live as ones whose mouths have been enlarged over our enemies.

Declaration: My mouth is enlarged over mine enemies.

Scripture: “…with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations” (Psalm 89:1).
