Blessing Your Family

Then all the people left, each for their own home, and David returned home to bless his family. (1 Chronicles 16:43)

Thought: 1 Chronicles 16 records a very busy day in the life of King David; it could have been one of his busiest days. (When you get a chance, please read this chapter.) It was a day King David had been looking forward to: the day the ark of the covenant was set up in the city of David. It was a full day for David – a day of ceremonies, a day of making offerings to the Lord, and a day of blessing his people. It was truly an amazing and memorable day for him. One thing is important to note here: the Holy Spirit makes sure not to miss out on one important activity in David’s busy day – David returned home to bless his family. However glorious his day was, it was not over till David blessed his family. This is a day in the life of David, a man after God’s own heart. However glorious our day may be, however stressful or demanding the day might have been, or however rewarding the day could have been, may we never end it without pronouncing a word of blessing on our God-given inheritance on this side of eternity: our families. This word of blessing will secure the borders of our home.

Prayer: Father, I praise You and thank You for the blessing of my household. My home and my children are my reward and inheritance on this earth and I thank You for this. Lord, You said in Your word, “Whom you bless, I will bless”; so I use my words to pronounce a blessing over my household. May the words I speak over my spouse and my children always be words that build and bless. I thank You that You will use my words to bring Your life into my home. Lord Jesus, I declare this today: “My home will always be an expression of your kingdom on this earth.” I thank You for hearing my prayer. In Jesus’ name, amen.
