Food, fortune, and favor

I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all (Ecclesiastes 9:11).

I would like to title today’s devotion, “Food, fortune, and favor.” When God made us in His image His desire was that we would live life to the fullest. This purpose is expressed in the very words of Christ: “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). In life everything works in seasons; each season is different from the others, and each season has the purpose of maximizing our lives. As children of God, we continuously walk in the favor of God, but there are certain seasons that carry with them favor for a particular reason. Just as in the natural there is a season to sow seed and another to reap what is sown, so it is with our lives. Things done out of season seldom produce results.

In Ecclesiastes 9:11, Solomon the wise highlights three key areas in our lives: the area of our sustenance – food; the area of our influence – fortune; and the area of promotion – favor. I truly believe to live life to the fullest (John 10:10), all of these areas in our lives will need to be influenced by the blessing of God. The more we are able to receive from the Lord, the more we will be in a position to release into the lives of others. Never forget: as children of God in Christ we walk in the blessing of Abraham (Galatians 3:14), one who was blessed to be a blessing. I pray that in the coming days the Lord will perfect everything that concerns us; that we will be aligned to our season; and that our lives will be maximized as we are enriched in the areas of our sustenance, our influence, and our promotion.

Declaration: The opportunity to increase in the area of food (sustenance), fortune (influence), and favor (promotion) is coming my way and I will NOT miss my season of these blessings.

Scripture: I know thy works. Behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it. (Revelation 3:8)
