Gentelness of God

The Gentleness of God

Psalm 18:35 reads, “Your gentleness has made me great.” I have read this verse several times, but recently I saw it in a very different light. What exactly did David mean? The Lord expresses Himself to us in gentleness. In Matthew 11:29, the Lord Jesus describes Himself this way: “I am gentle and lowly in heart”. The gentleness of God will never force us to do anything but will always give us the option to obey and yield to Him. The enemy tries to bring about his agenda through force. Anytime we are forced to do something, it is seldom a rewarding experience.

In the kingdom of God, our rewards are determined by our willingness to respond to the Lord’s guidance, which is always expressed through His gentleness. When we start yielding to His gentle promptings and His still small voice, there is always a reward. When David spoke of his greatness being a result of God’s gentleness, I believe this is what he meant: his greatness was not forced upon him; rather, it was his willingness to yield and submit to God’s gentle nature that elevated him. As we go through this week, let’s remain attentive to the Lord’s gentle voice and leading, for in submitting to His gentleness, there is always a reward.

Declaration: As I grow in my relationship with Christ, my life will be an expression of yielding and submitting to the gentleness of God. As I live life in complete submission to the Lord and His gentle guidance, my testimony will be, “Your gentleness has made me great.”

Scripture: “After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.” (1 Kings 19:12)
