and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Colossians 3:10
In the story of creation in Genesis 1, you will see that God created everything by His spoken word. The light, the darkness, the heavens, the earth, the seas, the dry land, the fish of the sea, the cattle, the trees: every one of these things was a product of God’s spoken word; but when it came to the creation of man, God chose a different method. Man was, is, and always will be God’s most prized creation – created to represent Him on the earth.
God created man as a combination of two things – the temporal (the dust of the earth) and the eternal (the breath of life): “Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being” (Genesis 2:7). The breath of life God breathed into man carried with it the DNA of God and this is the reason you and I have in us the image of God: “God created mankind in his own image” (Genesis 2:7). The image of God has two very important things: emotions and desires. In the fall of man, this pure image of God was defiled, and this defilement corrupted man’s desires and his emotions. In Christ, the restoration of our desires and emotions will be a constant work of renewal. The only way this renewal will manifest itself in our lives is through the knowledge of God (Colossians 3:10). As we grow in the knowledge of God we give room for the Spirit of God to do a work in the deep areas of our lives: our emotions and our desires.
Declaration: This week I will make an effort to grow in the knowledge of God. Even as I grow in the knowledge of God, my new self in Christ will align itself to the image of its creator.
Scripture: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord (2 Peter 1:2).
