Lending a Voice to Our Worries

So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ (Matthew 6:31)

Thought: Do you know how we strengthen our worries? By giving our worries a voice. In this verse, Jesus does not just tell us to stop worrying but to stop saying things that are contrary to the kingdom of God. In the kingdom of God, there is no lack and there will never be a lack; we will all be amply provided for out of His abundance. Next time when you are tempted to give voice to your doubts, just turn your eyes to the source of all your providence and then you will be like the psalmist who said, “I will say of the Lord he is my…” (Psalm 91:2).

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I ask You to forgive me for the times I have doubted Your providence in my life and given my worries a voice. Lord, today I choose not to give my worries a voice but instead to say who You are. Today I am replacing the voice of my worries with these words: You are my deliverer, You are my provider, You are my healer, You are my wisdom, and above all You are my righteousness. I rejoice in this: that who You are is much greater than all my worries, concerns, and anxieties. In Jesus’ name, amen.
