Pause and look

Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God..There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.” When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.” Exodus 3:2-4

Thought: Today, I want to take a moment to write to all of us parents. As this new season starts for us and our children, life can get very monotonous and very busy. So it was with Moses: just another day to take his sheep out to graze and do what he always did, till he encountered the “bush that was on fire”. Moses did not encounter God but just a bush that was on fire. There are moments in life where God will do things to get our attention and then He waits to see how we respond. Moses could have moved on from the burning bush and gone on with life, but Moses chose to “go over and see the strange sight”. It was ONLY when God saw that Moses chose to move out of the routine of the day and “go over” to where God was trying to get his attention that God began engaging in conversation with him. In this new season of our lives, there will be moments – very definite moments, where the Holy Spirit will want our attention: at those moments let us pull over and take a break from the busyness and the monotonous demands of life; it just may be that moment that God has chosen to have a conversation with us. One conversation with God can change the trajectory of our lives and our homes. All this starts with God trying to get our attention and how we respond.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for this new season of our lives. Lord, even as we enter this new season, we thank You for all those surprise moments You have planned for us, moments where You want to get our attention. Lord, this year as a parent I thank You for the blessing of children. I thank You that You have trusted me with all the many responsibilities that come with being a parent, but Lord, with all these many responsibilities I pray I will NEVER miss my moments with You. Lord, I thank You for all the many conversations You have already planned to have with me and I thank You that You have already prepared me to “step aside” with You when these moments come. I thank You for who You are in our lives and, as a parent,  I thank You for the beauty of this new season. In Jesus’ precious name, amen.
