Perfect Work

Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. (Revelation 3:2)

What does the Bible mean when it says, “I have not found your works perfect before God”? The call of every believer in Jesus Christ is to do good works: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). I believe everything we do “as for the Lord” is an expression of good works: “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord and not for people” (Colossians 3:23).  We know what good work is, but what is perfect work?

I believe a good work is not something you do for one moment; a good work involves time and is a lengthy process. “He who began a good work in you is able to complete it…” (Philippians 1:6). In the kingdom of God, perfection is the ability to stay the course even when you feel like giving up, and perfection is being able to finish what you have started. Passion gives us the ability to start something, but patience gives us the ability to complete it, and to complete something that you started is an expression of perfection. The statement, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7) is one that expresses perfection. Our rewards in heaven will not be based on the things we have started but on the things we have completed. Don’t give up; stay the course, for the call of God on our lives is not just unto good works but unto perfect work.

Declaration: I will be one who lives life with perseverance for in doing so, my work will be found perfect before God.

Scripture: The LORD will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands. (Psalm 138:8)
