Reward of a believer

Unless I shall see…John 20:25

As children of God, we belong to two conflicting kingdoms – the kingdom of this world and the kingdom of God – but our call is to be governed by the kingdom of God. The principle that governs the kingdom of this world is this: first see and then believe; but the principle that governs the kingdom of God is this: first believe and then you will see.

In John 20:25, we see Thomas making a choice to first see and then believe. After Jesus’ resurrection, the second time He appears to His disciples, He seems to come specifically to meet with Thomas to address the choice Thomas had made and He tells him: “…blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29). In the kingdom of God, our source of life is not what we see but our source of life is what we choose to believe; “…and that believing ye might have life…” (John 20:31). As we go through this week with all its demands, let us choose to live from a place of trusting God with regard to His promise of protection, His promise of providence, and His promise of peace for us. As we live from a place of believing, this will be our reward: seeing what we have believed for.

Declaration: This week I live from this assurance in Psalm 58:11 which says, “Surely there is a reward for the righteous”. This week, as one who is righteous, I choose to live from a place of believing even though I do not see for I know, in due time, my reward will be seeing that which I have believed for.
