Stand next to Eli

There are three things that are never satisfied…the barren womb (Proverbs 30:15, 16)

Depending on how you handle it, being dissatisfied can be a good thing. Why? From the beginning, God’s call and purpose for man was to be fruitful: “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful” (Genesis 1:28). God designed every one of us to be productive in our sphere of influence: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). The reason that dissatisfaction can be a good thing for a child of God is that it is an indicator that the Lord has called you for something more.

The Bible talks about Hannah and gives us an insight into how she handled her season of barrenness. There are three key things Hannah did to break the stigma of barrenness off her life.

First, she refused to settle for anything less than what was in her heart. Elkanah, her husband, loved her dearly and did everything he could to make Hannah accept her situation and move on: “Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?” (1 Samual 1:8).

Second, Hannah made her request known to the Lord.

Finally, Hannah did something that was the key to her breakthrough – she repositioned herself: “So Hannah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh” (1 Samual 1:9). She repositioned herself next to Eli. Eli means “high” or “elevated”. I believe Hannah repositioned herself where the word of God would be elevated and lifted up. It was in that place she received her breakthrough. This was her testimony when she returned to the temple with little Samuel: “I am the woman who stood by you here” (1 Samuel 1:26). Place yourself where the word of God is elevated, lifted up, and given the first place, and you will see the work of God following.

Declaration: In no area of my life will I be found barren. Even as I do not settle for anything less than God’s purpose for my life, and I stand before the Lord and position myself where the word of God will always be lifted up, my life will be fruitful and full of purpose.

Scripture: For thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name (Psalm 138:2).
