The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it (Genesis 2:15).
Responsibility of work and stewardship was always man’s portion, even before the fall (Genesis 2:15). When God created the world, he created two entities; heaven and earth. Heaven was His domain to handle but the earth he put into the control of man; The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’S: but the earth hath he given to the children of men (Psalm 115:16). When God created the earth He designed it in such a way that the ground would provide all the sustenance man needed and the earth would always respond favorably to man’s labor. When sin entered the world there was no change to the responsibility God had placed on man – to work, but what changed was the way the ground would respond to man – By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food (Genesis 3:19).
Today, as believers in the finished work for of our Lord Jesus Christ, God’s initial design for the ground to sustain us has not changed, but what has changed is the way the ground will now have to respond to us – once more favorably. This week and all the days of our life as we faithfully and diligently engage with the work that God has blessed us with, let us expect the labor of our hands to yield a harvest of blessing that is thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold. This blessing will no longer be because of the sweat of our brow but because, in Christ, we are no longer under a curse, but we live from a place of blessing.
Declaration: This year, as I diligently engage with my sphere of influence God has blessed me with, I declare that I will see great returns of a thirty, sixty, and hundredfold. This harvest of blessing I will reap is not because of the sweat of my brow but, because of who I am in Christ, the ground I work will once again respond favorably.
Scripture: You will enjoy the fruit of your labor. How joyful and prosperous you will be! (Psalm 128:2 NLT)
