The bows of the mighty men are broken… 1 Samuel 2:4
The verse mentioned above is part of Hannah’s prayer when she experienced a great breakthrough after a prolonged season of provocation and irritation from her rival: “…her rival kept provoking her in order to irritate her. This went on year after year.” (1 Samuel 1:6,7). Some of the first words that came out of Hannah’s mouth were: “The bows of the mighty men are broken”. What does this mean? We all know that as a weapon, the bow and the arrow go together. It is the bow that gives the arrow the power to inflict a wound; without the bow, the arrow is a powerless weapon. When Hannah had her breakthrough, she had this revelation: the power of the enemy had been invalidated.
As New Testament believers, we live by this same revelation of what Jesus has accomplished for us on the cross: “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” (Colossians 2:15). This week we live from a place of trusting in all Jesus has accomplished for us on the cross. Let us resist thoughts of fear, doubt, and discouragement as these are the voice of one who has been stripped of all power over our lives.
Declaration: This week I live as one who is seated “in heavenly places in Christ Jesus”. This week I live from a place of divine authority, trusting these words: “and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19). I choose to live as one of those who are “more than conquerors through him who loved us” (Romans 8:37).
