Suddenly a sound like a mighty rushing wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw tongues like flames of a fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. (Acts 2:2,3)
Thought: This verse captures the event that birthed the New Testament Church – without doubt, the most important institution on the face of the earth. God established the church, which is you and me, to represent Him in this world. This occurrence in Acts 2:1-4 birthed the event that was in the heart of God from the foundation of the earth. Do you realize this great event that was designed by God to fulfill His great purpose on the earth was marked by one thing: God touching the tongues of men? Why? God was getting ready to steer mankind back to Him and He was going to do it using two things: the wind of His Holy Spirit working in cooperation with our tongues/words (see James 3:5).
Prayer: Father, we thank You for the outpouring of Your Holy Spirit. Lord, it is my desire to be an instrument in Your hands to represent You well to our hurting and lost world. Lord, to do this I need the power of Your Spirit just like Your disciples in the early church needed it. Father, I ask You today to fill me with Your Holy Spirit, touch my tongue, and use my words to represent Jesus Christ and His heart to this world accurately. I thank You for hearing my prayer and I thank You that You are going to do it. In Jesus’ name, amen.
